Three of Federico Martone’s aunts are fighting over a huge bingo prize. The women were supposed to share the money they won at a Glasgow bingo hall but when one of them, named Jean McCullagh, hit the £1 million jackpot, she refused to split it with her two sisters-in-law, Rose and Jessie.

Big Brother Four Fed, who owns a restaurant in Glasgow, said the situation has driven a big wedge in his family. “My aunt Rose is a lovely woman and would never tell a lie,” Federico explained. “She and Jessie feel very betrayed. You have to wonder if any amount of money is worth causing all these emotional wounds.”

Rose, Jessie, Jean and Jean’s sister Margaret, who was visiting from Canada, went to the Mecca Bingo Hall in Glasgow last Friday. Before they started playing, they agreed that if they won the big prize, they would split it four ways. "We all knew Jean was doing well with her card and when the number one came in we all shouted, 'House!'” Jessie said.

That night, Jean confirmed to her two sisters-in-law that she would stick to her promise and divide the prize. However, next morning she told the sisters she would keep the money since it would set up her three daughters for life. “We are in a state of shock. We just can't believe Jean could do anything like this to us. They say money is a corrupting thing and it's certainly true in this case,” Rose finished.
