Bingo for Whizz Kidz

The team leader in the food department at Mecca Bingo, Keri Prowse, was the first one to come up with the idea. She, along with Davina Warden and Kim Pannel, began a sponsored diet at the end of May where, each week, they all step on the scales at the bingo club in front of staff and customers to be weighed.

There’s hardly a better motivation to loose weight than to stand on a scale in front of a group of strangers who anxiously wait for your weekly weight. Before starting the sponsored diet, Keri used to be a size 18 and she is now already down to a size 14. The more pounds she manages to loose, the more the money that she will be raising for Whizz Kidz. This charity has the objective of helping disabled children and also helps them to live more independent lives.

When referring to the whole weighing factor, Keri said: “It’s really nerve-racking when everyone is staring and I just want to die, especially the first time I did it. But it’s a good incentive knowing that everyone is there, watching. You don’t want to go through the embarrassment of not losing anything that week! Apart from my dad and boyfriend, lots of customers are sponsoring me too. Until now, I’ve raised about £80 and am hoping of raising between around £300; Mecca Bingo Exeter is hoping to raise around £2,500 for this charity this year.

Here is a good example of true team work and company spirit, where actual employees of a company care about other’s well-being and are willing to sacrifice something of their own in order to help others in need. These truly are role model employees.
